To borrow a phrase from the “youth” I hear around me, H&M’s sweater game is strong this season! I bought the feminism one as a birthday present to myself, and the other 2 were birthday presents from a friend. I love them all 😀

I also really love this one:

MTV and burgers were basically my life at one point.

(Ok, burgers still are.)

And this one’s pretty cute too:

hmprod (3)

I especially love the pizza.

(When burgers are busy, pizza is my life instead.)

Happy Friday everyone, have a great weekend!

Fluffy1

It’s Friday!!! 😀

I wore this fluffy lilac jumper for birthday drinks with my friends last week. It’s very warm (almost too warm) and I was a very popular hug candidate in it, which is always nice! As it’s a bit more cosy and shapeless than what I usually wear, I paired it with as much bling as possible to glam it up.

My friend bought me the starry dangly earrings about 12 years ago and I still love them and wear them all the time. And the hearty Vivienne Westwood earrings were my birthday present this year from my bf.

IMG_6078

The necklace (aka my new favourite thing) is from Claire’s Accessories and was a gift from my nieces, as I mentioned last post!

Facebook has started doing these little slideshows of the photos on my phone at the top of my feed, which really annoys me (I’m constantly terrified I’ll accidentally upload the most recent batch of “do I have back rollies in this?” mirror selfies that I’ve just taken at any given time) but I thought the fading effect of these pictures was cool!

My nails are painted in gel varnish from Avon, and it’s really good! It goes on very smoothly and lasts a long time before chipping. 🙂

IMG_6046

My friends totally spoiled me! I had a homemade cake, a store bought cake and an inflatable crown! (As well as presents!) It was a great night. 😀

(Although I have made it clear that I do not want the same style of cake next year- I’m keeping that number on the DL!)

IMG_6053

This was the cake after the meringue numbers collapsed and it was given to me backwards, so instead of ’29’, I am now officially ‘P smooerrsh’.

My rubbish attempt at taking a car selfie in my inflatable crown. Bow down b*tches!

BDAY6It’s that time of year again- the time when the lure of presents and my horror of becoming a grown up wage war against each other, leaving me a conflicted and confused bystander.

So far however, the presents are winning! 😀

BDAYYes, it’s my birthday today and my adorable nieces, who share my affinity for all things colourful and sparkly, gave me this box of jewels hand picked by themselves from Claire’s Accessories. (Not entirely by themselves, I hope. Being 5 and 3 years old, I’ll assume my sister was there with them. And that she paid.)

Anyway, how spoilt am I?! 😀 I decided to wear the most blingalicious one today, in honour of my agedness.

BDAY8

BDAY2

I also wore my tiara  (so sue me, I wear tiaras on my birthday! And on Oscar night. And my nameday. And whenever I wear a robe because that makes me feel crazy glamourous. And sometimes just when I’m feeling blue.) for breakfast but took it off before leaving for work. 😦 Now that I’m old, I have to conform to society’s interpretation of what makes a person seem “normal” and “sane”.

Harrumph.

BDAY NAILS

I painted my nails for NYE, in Ciaté’s Raspberry Collins with a layer of Rom-Com Rouge red glitter over the top. It’s not the most mature, but I like it!

BDAY7

bday10

I’m at work today (grr) but going out for dinner tonight (yay). I’ll probably change into what I wore last Valentine’s Day for that, as it’s funky and I can wear my most stretchy trousers with it. Steak and cheesecake here I come!

Happy New Year everyone! Here’s hoping 2016 is the best yet!

Ok, I realise that December is technically winter but it is weirdly mild here in London (for which I am grateful, weathergods! Don’t smite me!), which means I can still get away with wearing my favourite autumn outfit! 🙂

IMG_5195

Coat: Monsoon

Long sleeved t-shirt, treggings and shoes: Marks & Spencer

Necklace and bangle: Accessorize

Scarf: Zara

IMG_5199

IMG_5187

I really do love wearing this outfit- it’s super simple (all black + colourful coat = no thought necessary), it’s comfy, it’s work or bar appropriate, and the necklace makes it seem a lot more exciting than it really is. 😀

(I’ve had the necklace for years and it is so handy, I’ve worn it to fancy events with a black strapless dress and often wear it to travel. Maximum impact- minimum effort!)

Me on holiday in Italy a couple of years ago (with an H&M cardi that I also wear too much):

Yes, I took leaning photos in front of the leaning Tower of Pisa. I would be embarrassed but the ones I took pretending to hold it up were way worse…

Thanksgiving OOTD

Despite being English and not really knowing what Thanksgiving is about, I have definitely noticed it becoming more of a thing here in the UK over the last few years (especially the whole “Black Friday” thing, which is suddenly a BFD apparently). Anyway, last year my friends decided to have a big Thanksgiving dinner (which, being only a couple of weeks before our annual ‘friends’ Christmas dinner, meant that nobody wanted turkey again so soon – what do Americans do? Do you have the huge meal with all the trimmings both times?). Being the Queen of Procrastination that I am (no need to use the full title, Your Most Serene Highness will suffice), I never got around to sharing what I wore to it last year and so here it is! (Better late than never, right?)

I obviously decided to go for an American theme (again)

I had originally wanted to wear my Primark dungarees:

IMG_7708

But then decided that a.) I looked stupid, b.) I’d be cold and c.) I really did look stupid, so instead I went for:

IMG_7740

Denim shirt: Primark

Jeans: Asos

Backpack: Asos

Plaid shirt: River Island

Shoes: New Look (with my Charlotte Olympia inspired Archie DIY brooches)

Baseball cap: merchandise from an Eminem gig

Phone case: Skinnydip London

Earrings: Lazy Oaf

IMG_7743

My rings and bracelets are mostly cheap and old, from various markets etc. (except for the hearty one, which is Tiffany’s) and I just combined everything I had that was red, white, blue or starry/stripey. Never let it be said that I didn’t commit to a theme!

I appreciate that sandals look better without socks but hey, it’s November!

Plates

How adorable is this peacock plate from Perky on Not on the High Street?! I kind of want to buy it and be one of those people who displays plates on her wall… Of course I would buy some as dinner plates but £29.50 a plate is sliiightly out of my price range.

What I did buy however is a bunch of plates from the Habitat Concetta range, which I’ve loved for ages! Also pretty expensive, but I compromised by buying half the amount of plates and bowls that I need and the other half from Ikea. The Ikea plates are about the same size and shape, just plain white, so I figure I’ll alternate when setting the table and it’ll look fine.

Upon closer inspection of the Perky products, they also do plates with other fabulous designs! As well as cushions and art prints! I may have to splurge on something after all…. After all, a house isn’t a home without an earring-wearing bird.

I was actually late for work the other day because I was half way down in the lift before I realised that I really couldn’t subject my innocent fellow tube-takers to the horror of this outfit. Clashing may be the new going but retina-bleeding will never be the new colour-blocking.

(I clearly didn’t have the same qualms about exposing the people who are kind enough to read my blog to the same pain- sorry! Send the optometrist fees to the usual address.)

photo 5 (1)

Pink trench and mustard top both Marks & Spencer.

I had to rush back and dig up my neutral Primark trench with faux leather sleeves.

photo 2 (6)

Jewellery wise, I wore my daisy necklace from the Brooklyn flea market and my sheep earrings, which I’m still in love with.

Hope everyone is having a good, fashion faux-pas free week – the end is in sight! 🙂

Because you can never have too many!

ASOSearrings

Scouring ASOS for a birthday present for a friend, I naturally stumbled upon a couple (*ahem*) of things I wanted for myself. It didn’t help that I had a 20% off card from Elle magazine (the September issue, with Kristen Stewart on the cover) so felt like I had to “make the most” of the discount by spending tons more money than I otherwise would have.

But my favourite purchases were these 2 pairs of earrings:

image1xxl

Bought these as an attempt to replace my similar shaped pink and green ones that broke 😦 They were £8.

image1xxl (1)

LOVE these ones, and they show up better against my dark hair too. £20 (£16 with the discount :-D)

I am letting myself off the hook however as I did also buy the aforementioned present (a knitted jumper with a burger on it that I totally want for myself as well!) for my friend’s birthday!

Where’s my halo?

Happy Friday, have a great weekend!

OOTD T-shirts

Just two recent outfits…

I wore my new pink M&S top with M&S treggings and sparkly Converse to see Dave Chappelle at the Hammersmith Apollo last week. We were way further forward than I thought we’d be and I have never been so grateful for a lack of audience participation in my life! I think I am going to make an effort to sit near the back at comedy shows in the future… It didn’t help that my sister was wearing an even brighter top (it was neon and actually glowed under the lights) – we have never felt so vulnerable! Having said that, our cheeks hurt for hours afterwards so definitely a good show!

photo 3 (34)

The top is super flowy and comfortable and has a funky pleated back, which adds interest and makes it just smart enough for work:

photo 5 (21)

M&S

I’m not sure how flattering it actually is- I’m worried that it creates a slight hump-back/maternity effect- but I think that’s mostly just in photos, it’s fine in motion. And I couldn’t resist the colour!

photo 4 (29)

Necklace: Sublime; ring from Monastiraki last year; bracelets are various ones ones I have accumulated over the years, I think the grey circle one is by Elle Amber.

photo 3 (35)

photo 1 (41)

photo 5 (20)

The top kind of speaks for itself… how could I not buy it?! Anything that combines Disney with Beyoncé is alright by me! I am obsessed with Primark t-shirts actually, they are pretty much all I buy these days- I love the captions, the material and the shape. Although I can’t wait for them to get over their “half rolled up sleeves” phase.

I wore this outfit to go for dinner yesterday. The skirt is Primark, and the trainers are New Balance (410 Sonic) from Asos.

If you had told me even a year ago that I would be wearing trainers to dinner, I would have laughed in your face. (Admittedly, we only went to the local kebab place, I wouldn’t have worn them had we been going anywhere nicer.) But as I get older, I am rapidly losing tolerance for anything less than super-comfiness (another thing I never believed I’d say until recently) and so I bought these with a view to mostly just wearing them to and from work. However, what with seeing so many people (primarily bloggers) making trainers into a ‘look’, I have been venturing out in them more and more. It took me ages to find ones that I liked, as I wanted really clean, uncluttered ones that didn’t make my feet look enormous (I have realised that whenever I think a woman looks nice in trainers, it is almost always because her feet are tiny and dainty- aka my life dream) but I am really happy with these ones.

Asos New Balance

Still not as cool as my sparkly Converse though!

Our final day in Istanbul began the way all our days had begun….

…with the epic butter mountain at breakfast! 🙂

photo (24)

After we had eaten and done the obligatory mad rush to pack and leave the room, we stashed our suitcases at the hotel, and headed out to Dolmabahce Palace. This was recommended to me by a cousin who had visited Istanbul, as an example of insane uber-grandness, and it certainly lived up to that!

photo 1 (20)

There was a long queue for tickets when we got there, which was annoying but at least the view was great.

photo 1 (23)

photo 5 (9)

There was also a long wait to get in as they only let a few people in at a time. When we got to the front we also realised that you have to go as part of a guided tour, which was annoying as I really don’t like guided tours! I know they are way more informative and everything, I just hate being told what to look at and for how long when I’m on holiday!

photo 4 (12)

It got more irritating when, after putting our little blue shoe covers on, we were told that there were no photos allowed inside!

Had it not been for this blog, I probably would have been quite zen about it but it turns out that “no photos” is the worst thing you can say to a blogger, and I was miffed!

I also totally flouted the rule and tried to take as many pictures as I could without being noticed.

photo 3 (19)

Consequently, all my pictures are slightly blurry, and frequently involve the underside of someone’s chin, but still! I’m a rebel without a cause! I’m a donkey on the edge! I AM BLOGGER HEAR ME ROAR!

Dolmabahce

It was incredibly grand and extravagant. Apparently, building it actually contributed to the bankruptcy of the country! It was much more European than the heavily Ottoman influenced Topkapi, having been built much later on (in the 1800s) when the “refined”, luxurious European style was much more in fashion.

The chandeliers were amazing…

Dolmabahce chandeliers

photo 5 (8)

The library was lovely…

photo 4 (11)

The grounds were fabulous…

More ‘Christmas tree’ railings! They were everywhere!:

photo 2 (16)

photo 3 (18)

photo 2 (19)

I would say that at least 50% of all the young girls I saw were wearing these flower crowns, and they were selling them everywhere!

photo 3 (13)

We passed these vibrant rainbow steps on the tram and I made my boyfriend get off so we could take pictures on them. Unfortunately, everyone else had the same idea so there was a queue of vain baffoons like myself waiting for the steps to empty. In the end, the people before us took so long, and other, less polite people didn’t bother to wait so they never emptied and there are loads of random people in all my photos…

photo 4 (15)

photo 3 (16)

And cats! So many cats!

photo 3 (20)

photo 1 (26)

photo 4 (13)

I was wearing:

Pink M&S trench, which looked pretty cool against the steps, though I say so myself.

M&S flamingo shirt

M&S treggings (Ugh I’ve done it again, I do wear other brands sometimes!)

Office booties.

Sublime necklace.

River Island sunglasses.

Love bracelet from M&S (dammit!)

I was dressing solely for comfort here as I was heading straight to the airport. I always rely on colour and bling to make my comfy travel outfits a bit more exciting than a tracksuit.

Stairsbandylegs

I never realised that I walked funny until these photos… Why are my legs always sideways?……. On the plus side, I appear to have done something weird to the photo on the right which makes me look really tall and leggy! Score 🙂

photo 5 (10)

Apparently, they have rainbow steps like these all over Istanbul, (see here for the story).

I adored them, they are just so darn cheerful!

photo 2 (23)

After the obligatory million pictures with cats (and truth be told, cats make me nervous! I am definitely more of a goldfish person), we headed back to Sultanahmet for our last supper. We went to a restaurant called Khorasani, which was, by far, the best meal we ate there! Had we eaten there first, I doubt we’d have gone anywhere else. It was so good! Plus, it was pretty, and the service was great. I would definitely recommend it to anyone going to Istanbul!

Khorasani

Then we rushed back to our lovely hotel to get our bags and off we went. Back home. To the land of gloomy weather and sup-par lamb shish. 😦

photo 1 (25)

It was an amazing trip though! So glad I finally went! 🙂
