Oh wait, I’m already there ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m currently in Athens, visiting my family. We’re in the middle of a heatwave, all the locals are devastated – I am thrilled! ๐Ÿ™‚ Who knows? I might even tan.

I bought this bag from Accessorize (my sister has the blue version that says “Hit the beach”). It’s meant to be a “bikini bag”, which I assume means it’s to put your wet bikini in when you change out of it but I think it’s way too cute for that and have been using it as a clutch.

I had a little snakeskin pouch that came with a beach bag I bought a few years ago so I put my money and tissues etc. in that, and then put in my pineapple scarf from Suite Blanco in Lisbon, Victoria Secret lip gloss and my phone (the moving glitter phone case is from Skinnydip London, I am obsessed with their stuff).

If you’re on holiday, I hope you’re having a brilliant time and if you’re not, I hope you’re not too upset about it!

Happy hump day!

…I saw a girl (with a cool 90s bob and all black outfit) carrying this one last night and had to ask where she got it from. (Don’t worry – backpack rehab starts on Monday).

It’s from Topshop and I loveย it – but it’s ยฃ100 which, try as I might, I just can’t justify spending on a hairy, tasselly backpack that I don’t *technically*ย need!

When are the sales again?

Backpack: Primark

I went out last week looking for work tops and somehow came back with this bag instead. It’s jangly as hell, clashes with everything I own, and my boyfriend said I looked like a mad fortune teller but whevs -I love it! ๐Ÿ™‚

Happy Hump Day everybody!

Anyone who knows me knows that I consider Accessorizeย to be my spiritual home. I was in there the other day, buying a gift for my niece. (She’s 4, adorable, and for her birthday she requested her own versions of all of my necklaces! Having been buying jewellery for almost 20 years, I was unable to fulfil that particular wish, but I figured a couple of “grown-up” necklaces from my favourite shop might do the trick!)

Anyway, while I was there I saw (and heroically put back on the shelf) this super-cute bag:

They have loads of really cool pompom-y boho stuff as well, which I’m really feeling right now but I managed to restrain myself and only bought these flip flops:

I am obsessed with Accessorize’s seagrass flip flops, I buy a couple of pairs every year as they are by far the comfiest flip flops I have ever come across! (The “thong” bit is fabric, which makes it so much nicer than most plastic flip flops). They only last about 2 or 3 summers before falling apart though so spares are a must!

Hope everyone’s enjoying their summer so far! I am just getting ready to book my holiday (visiting my family in Athens) and I’m excited! ๐Ÿ˜€

The Styletterie

The other day, my friend had a birthday party. Because she likes to cause trouble, her theme was the not very catchy “come-wearing-the-things-you-love-that-everybody-else-hates.”

Personally, I think it was all an elaborate scheme to enable her to wear her hideous mesh pastel brogue thingies.

This theme was a good one because we are a close-knit circle of friends who have known each other since we were 11. Trust me when I say, there is no clothes-related mockery that we haven’t subjected each other to. We all have very different styles (which I love- we’re best friends, not a “tribe”) and we all have opinions (which we just looove to share!)

Unfortunately, we couldn’t go all out with the crazy clothes as a.) we were actually going out and b.) she wanted us to star in a video project she was doing for work so we had to look reasonably normal. Fortunately, my most-ridiculed fashion item is the above pictured mustard yellow bag, which is pretty easy to weave in to any look. (Well, I think it is!) I found it several years ago, on sale in River Island, and I think it’s meant to be a make-up case, not a handbag, but for some reason I instantly loved it. (The phrase “Omg that’s so ridiculous, I have to have it!” is a common utterance for me). It was roundly derided and abused by all my friends (“Selfridges panettone” and “if Big Bird’s mother had a bag” being two of the more original descriptions) but I didn’t care. I enjoyed it, the impracticality of it appealed to my sense of whimsy and I’ve worn it loads! (It also, surprisingly,ย  turned out to be a total man magnet, but that’s another story for another time…)

But here’s my point: It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. If you love something and wear it with confidence and a sense of humour, you will look cool. Fact. Loads of the outfits I used to mock my friends for are things I would totally wear now and anyway, how dull would it be if we all liked the same stuff? How would we ever be inspired, or delighted, or just plain amused?! So, never be afraid of wearing something ridiculous (or plain, if that’s your thing). Fashion is meant to be fun! And all the coolest people get mocked.

(That’s what I tell myself anyway…)
