WEDDINGS!!! Who doesn’t love weddings?! (Ok, I know a lot of people don’t but still…) Food, love, cheesy music, flowers, embarrassing speeches, dancing, cake, the opportunity to dress up… Weddings are my favourite thing ever! (Next to Made in Chelsea, obvs.) A very good friend of mine got married a couple of weeks ago ๐Ÿ˜€ and this is what I wore:

Floral dress: Asos (as seen in my wishlist post a while back).

Leopard print shoes: New Look

Hearty necklace and earrings: Swarovski

Tennis bracelet: Swarovski (I love this but I find that Swarovski bracelet clasps are useless! This is a replacement as my previous one just fell off my wrist and this one does the same quite often. Same goes for a different Swarovski bracelet I have. Grr)

Diamantรฉ bracelet: cheap, old, maybe H&M?

Love bracelet: Marks & Spencer

Teardrop ring: Mikey

“Ruby” ring: random cheap shop in Bath, I bought this at least 10 years ago and the “silver” is totally discoloured but I love it! I always think it looks like a wine gum ๐Ÿ™‚

I love the look of off the shoulder dresses and had always wanted to wear one. They aren’t the most practical style in the world (I couldn’t raise my arms, and leaning down to strap up my shoes etc. really hurt) but it’s a nice way to show some shoulder without having to hoik it up all the time, like you do with a strapless dress. Although it did occasionally look as though it was falling down, it never did!

Oh and just in case anyone else is on the lookout for a good strapless bra, the best one I’ve found is Wonderbra’s Ultimate Strapless Bra! (You can buy it in Debenhams.)

I was worried that my Motel leopard coat might be overkill with the shoes but I think it was ok. And anyway, I changed into my glittery Office flats before leaving so simultaneous coat and shoe time was minimal. (Also, don’t worry, I took some of these pics while I was just trying out my outfit, I didn’t actually go to a wedding with such messy hair!)

ImageI also removed one layer of netting from the petticoat of the skirt because, while I love the slimming effects of pouffy skirts on one’s legs, I always feel a bit like an overgrown baby in them!

My bag used to belong to my Godmother so I love carrying it, even though it fits hardly anything and is falling apart a bit!

The other day, my friend had a birthday party. Because she likes to cause trouble, her theme was the not very catchy “come-wearing-the-things-you-love-that-everybody-else-hates.”

Personally, I think it was all an elaborate scheme to enable her to wear her hideous mesh pastel brogue thingies.

This theme was a good one because we are a close-knit circle of friends who have known each other since we were 11. Trust me when I say, there is no clothes-related mockery that we haven’t subjected each other to. We all have very different styles (which I love- we’re best friends, not a “tribe”) and we all have opinions (which we just looove to share!)

Unfortunately, we couldn’t go all out with the crazy clothes as a.) we were actually going out and b.) she wanted us to star in a video project she was doing for work so we had to look reasonably normal. Fortunately, my most-ridiculed fashion item is the above pictured mustard yellow bag, which is pretty easy to weave in to any look. (Well, I think it is!) I found it several years ago, on sale in River Island, and I think it’s meant to be a make-up case, not a handbag, but for some reason I instantly loved it. (The phrase “Omg that’s so ridiculous, I have to have it!” is a common utterance for me). It was roundly derided and abused by all my friends (“Selfridges panettone” and “if Big Bird’s mother had a bag” being two of the more original descriptions) but I didn’t care. I enjoyed it, the impracticality of it appealed to my sense of whimsy and I’ve worn it loads! (It also, surprisingly,ย  turned out to be a total man magnet, but that’s another story for another time…)

But here’s my point: It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. If you love something and wear it with confidence and a sense of humour, you will look cool. Fact. Loads of the outfits I used to mock my friends for are things I would totally wear now and anyway, how dull would it be if we all liked the same stuff? How would we ever be inspired, or delighted, or just plain amused?! So, never be afraid of wearing something ridiculous (or plain, if that’s your thing). Fashion is meant to be fun! And all the coolest people get mocked.

(That’s what I tell myself anyway…)

Hearty tee: Zara

Adore necklace: Anthropologie

I so love a theme! And hearts, flowers and general cutesiness are a surprisingly easy one – I had no idea how much of my stuff already incorporates all the traditional V-Day ingredients! ๐Ÿ˜€

Hope you’re all excited, whether you are spending it canoodling with your main squeeze in a rose scented haze, sitting at home with a pizza, your single friends and Dirty Dancing on repeat or maybe attending an anti-Valentine’s event (I have a friend going to this which looks pretty cool)!
