Plates

How adorable is this peacock plate from Perky on Not on the High Street?! I kind of want to buy it and be one of those people who displays plates on her wall… Of course I would buy some as dinner plates but £29.50 a plate is sliiightly out of my price range.

What I did buy however is a bunch of plates from the Habitat Concetta range, which I’ve loved for ages! Also pretty expensive, but I compromised by buying half the amount of plates and bowls that I need and the other half from Ikea. The Ikea plates are about the same size and shape, just plain white, so I figure I’ll alternate when setting the table and it’ll look fine.

Upon closer inspection of the Perky products, they also do plates with other fabulous designs! As well as cushions and art prints! I may have to splurge on something after all…. After all, a house isn’t a home without an earring-wearing bird.

ASOSearrings

Scouring ASOS for a birthday present for a friend, I naturally stumbled upon a couple (*ahem*) of things I wanted for myself. It didn’t help that I had a 20% off card from Elle magazine (the September issue, with Kristen Stewart on the cover) so felt like I had to “make the most” of the discount by spending tons more money than I otherwise would have.

But my favourite purchases were these 2 pairs of earrings:

Bought these as an attempt to replace my similar shaped pink and green ones that broke 😦 They were £8.

LOVE these ones, and they show up better against my dark hair too. £20 (£16 with the discount :-D)

I am letting myself off the hook however as I did also buy the aforementioned present (a knitted jumper with a burger on it that I totally want for myself as well!) for my friend’s birthday!

Where’s my halo?

Happy Friday, have a great weekend!

I understand there is something on the twitternet called Woman Crush Wednesday, where one discusses a woman that one admires? (I should really join Twitter and/or Instagram, I am too young to be this curmudgeonly about technology.) Anyway, as it is Wednesday, I thought I should share what I was doing last Wednesday, which was being very pleasantly surprised watching Ella Eyre perform at The Roundhouse in Camden.

I was not an especially massive fan (I only knew her from her guest vocals on Rudimental’s “Waiting All Night”), but my friend invited me, I love gigs, and the Roundhouse is a cool venue. So, after bracing ourselves for the inevitable hair envy, off we went.

And were completely blown away! She was brilliant- great voice, I loved the songs, I was obsessed with her outfit and she seemed to be genuinely enjoying herself. I couldn’t get any decent pictures of her outfit so had to steal some off t’internet – I am never going anywhere without a black PVC capelet with gold tassels again! I also loved that she wore funky trainers instead of stilettos so that she could bounce around comfortably.

I’m also mega-crushing on her look in the video for “Gravity”, with DJ Fresh. I love turquoise and silver for summer!:

Her support acts were really good too – Jake Isaac, who had a lovely voice, followed by Shift K3y, whose songs all sounded like covers of 90s songs that I couldn’t quite put my finger on. I don’t mean that as a criticism, as a 90s lover, I really enjoyed them! (I will however criticise his incredibly daft name!)

I wore:

– My “Will Work For Candy” t-shirt, that I bought in the Sugar Factory in Vegas (it’s open all night, so cool! And also dangerous….)

– My trusty M&S treggings (one day I will do an OOTD not wearing them, honest!)

– Old choker necklace from the actual 90s (or possibly very early noughties)

– Chilli pepper necklace that was a freebie from a shop in Siena

– Random old black chain I had at home

– My new Marc by Marc Jacobs zip earrings, that were a Christmas present

– Old blue and gold bangles, from Accessorize

I also painted my nails pink with a layer of Barry M Croc Effect nail varnish (reviewed here):

But my absolute favourite thing about the gig? Gig earrings! I always try and buy some sort of merchandise at gigs as a souvenir, but usually you’re limited to ill-fitting men’s t-shirts, hugely tight women’s t-shirts, or plastic wristbands. There were actually loads of cool things on offer. Her trademark symbol is a crown-wearing lion, and they had canvas bags, onesies, phone cases, hoodies etc. with it on. But when I saw that they had earrings, I was sold!

Happy Hump Day everyone!

Ok, mini-haul may be overstating. I bought 2 things.

I was in Sublime looking for a present for someone the other day, and of course left with one thing for them and two things for me…

i-can-resist-everything-except-temptation-oscar-wilde

I bought this adorable swing necklace, and a pair of little earrings that I thought were cute. I always go a bit mad in that shop as once I exerted my will-power and didn’t buy something I liked and have regretted it ever since! (Can I get a #firstworldproblems?!)

Everyone I have shown these to has had a fit that the earrings are not placed centrally on the card…

Hope you’re having a good day! (Despite the overwhelming Mondayness that Mondays always seem to have.)

I take pictures of so much stuff that I like/buy/am inspired by with the intention of blogging about it here, but invariably end up getting distracted/procrastinating/finding something else I want to blog about first. So I thought I’d just bite the bullet and share them already in one long, rambly post. Before earrings become obsolete and no one cares anymore. (Perish the thought!)…

I bought the sheep earrings from Joy as a Christmas present to myself, and am obsessed with how cute they are!

This jumper is from Rad.co – I ordered loads of things from there and definitely want to do a whole post for them!

I went and saw Bryan Adams at The 02 in November. My sister was a massive fan of his growing up so I became one out of necessity! He was amazing, kept it all really simple- just him, his band and some black and white images on a screen behind him. We screamed like teenagers!

I wore: Asos Curve off the shoulder jumper, black M&S treggings, Asda watermelon handbag (that was a gift from my nieces :-D), Office booties and Topshop earrings. The necklace is just some chains that I bought at a craft shop in Monastiraki, held together with a safety pin.

I tried to fwoof my hair up and get an 80s rock chick vibe going… Unfortunately my hair always falls flat after about 10 minutes!

This little tag was on my birthday card from my brother… I think he was trying to tell me something!

And speaking of my birthday…

My friend got me these monstrosities-

PPs

Period panties. FFS. How is this a thing?! My favourite thing about these was that I opened them in front of my father, and his face as he tried to work them out was hilaaarious!

Adorable Oliver Bonas bag, for when you’re feeling a bit Pharrell…

I finally got around to watching the Asprey’s documentary (“Inside Asprey: Luxury by Royal Appointment”, which aired last summer) and thought these torso glasses were really cool. Sorry for the rubbish quality of the photo- it is just a picture of my TV on pause.

Flamingo fever!

There’s a lot of Marks and Spencer in this outfit- the flamingo top and pearls were gifts from my sister for Christmas and my birthday. The Love bracelet was also a gift from M&S a couple of years ago.

The peacock earrings are not from M&S, they were a gift from a friend in Birmingham. I actually just put them on as I liked the green and pink together – the bird theme was inadvertent!

photo 4

Monsoon jumper- this actually has a detachable feather collar that I removed so as to limit the birdiness!

photo 1 (53)

I love that this top is long enough that the pattern still shows under the jumper. (Although, 2 elderly people in my vicinity commented on the fact that the “youth” never tuck their shirts in!)

You can get away with a boring black outfit with enough bling!

Necklace and big ring: Peacocks

Earrings: Mikey

Small wedding-y type ring and bracelets: gifts from various shops in Athens, I think.

I have made the executive decision that I am not, as yet, too old for pig tails!

(This may be misguided but I don’t care. :-p)

photo 3 (50)

This made me chuckle, I don’t really know why, I just liked it! (Probably the same reason I like the current trend for those really rude and sweary cross-stich embroideries – I like the contrast of something cute, i.e. a teacup with something offensive!) From Sublime.

I love chandeliers, and this one in One Moorgate Place was a nice one.

I’ve been experiencing non-buyer’s remorse ever since seeing this M&S cushion and deciding against it a couple of months ago. I finally bought it! It just makes me smile 🙂

Happy Friday everyone, and have a great weekend!

Travel OOTDs

I hate travelling so, for me, comfort is key when figuring out what to wear. Especially if there’s a plane involved.

Top right: I tend to wear trousers (stretchy, of course), as I like to be able to get myself into whatever position is comfy (not easy on a plane), which often seems to involve having my legs akimbo… (Leggings are always good too, I often wear them under short dresses and even maxi-dresses to ensure that all angles are covered!)

Loose black top: Urban Outfitters, who I have to say, I am seriously considering boycotting, considering how much dumb, offensive stuff they peddle. Which is a shame, as they often have really cool stuff too; Treggings: M&S; Hot pink jumper: Peacocks. I love this jumper as it’s super cosy and fun enough to make my outfit look like style went into the thought process as well as comfort. (Also, it makes me look tanned. I usually wear it on my way back from somewhere hot!); Plimsolls: Next.

Top left: Treggings: M&S again; Plain black top: H&M; Angel wing earrings: H&M; Floaty tie-up top: Primark. This is probably my all-time favourite travel outfit. It’s light and comfy, but also forgiving and a bit glamourous. I’ll never be one of those women who can wear heels and a tight little number to travel, but I do believe that it’s possible to look vaguely stylish and be comfortable at the same time. There’s no reason to raid the Cotton Traders catalogue every time you leave town!

PrimarktopOOTDs

L: Me in Cannes a couple of years ago, having just arrived, wearing the same top with a black stretchy jumpsuit. R: Me looking vaguely Biblical whilst punting (Ok fine, attempting to punt. It’s way harder than it looks!) in Oxford. I really do over-use this top, it’s a work staple too!

Crete 14 Tomatoes Noooo 010pp

WTF tee: Express, in NY.

Crete 14 Tomatoes Noooo 1338pp

White tee: (Another attempt at looking tanned.) Forever 21; Necklace: Anthropologie.

Nexttoptravel

Treggings: You guessed it, M&S; Sequin sleeve tee: Next; Plimsolls: Office; Necklace: Primark. I’m a big believer that you can get away with wearing almost anything as long as your accessories are good enough. It’s all in the details. (NB. the only downside to this is that you will have to spend a long time de-jewel-ing at Security but it’s a small price to pay!) Gold angel wing earrings: Rachel Roy for Macy’s. Easy-to-spot-at-Baggage-Reclaim suitcase: Maisie Moo at Debenhams.

TravelOOTDNY

Long sleeved white tee: Peacocks; 90s-esque dress: New Look; Gold angel wing earings: Rachel Roy again; Heart necklace: Accessorize; Gold ring with fly on it: vintage. I’m normally opposed to bug jewellery (except butterflies), but have made an exception for this ring as it’s kind of cute and also used to belong to my Grandmother. Plus, it fits in with my rule of wearing flying themed jewellery when getting on a plane, for luck.

Butterflyearings

Another example of flying jewellery! Butterfly earrings: Mikey.

– I also always take socks in my bag in case a.) it’s cold on the plane or b.) they make you take your shoes off to go through Security… :-/

– I always have a scarf, which can double up as a pillow or blanket, as needed.

– A lot of people suggest wearing red lipstick to help look more glamourous when travelling, which is an idea that I love. Unfortunately I tend to eat a lot when I travel (for some reason I can’t fly without at least 2 bags of crisps and a tube of Fruit Pastilles) so I’m not sure it would really work for me! You can’t go wrong with big celeb sunnies though…

Thanks for reading! Have a good week!

ImageI went and saw Beyoncé at the O2 a couple of weeks ago. As ever, she was magnificent. Truly awe-inspiring. A glorious, gorgeous reminder that everything I do is actually a little bit crap. Lol :-p

I wore:

– Splotchy dress from ASOS

– Sequinned jacket – Topshop

-Black tights and booties – M&S

(Excuse the posey posing, I took these after the show, when I might have been a little tipsy…)

Image

РThe What would Beyonc̩ do?! badge was a freebie at a comedy show of the same name last year. (V funny!)

– BCBGeneration make-your-own bracelet

-Teardrop ring – Mikey (I miss Mikey, does it still exist?!)

– Mahoosive earrings – I bought these when Crazy in Love came out (HOW was that 11 years ago?!), as she had a similar pair in the video. I don’t remember where I got them from, I just remember scouring the internet for them (this was long before I had a computer of my own and before internet shopping was a thing that I did) because I simply had to have them. I wore them every time I went anywhere for years! I still love them, actually. And they are not as monstrously heavy as one might imagine. (I mean, they’re not feathers but I have worse!)

Image

I never really realised how much of a fashion influence Beyoncé is/has been on me until I wrote this post, but this is what I wore at the weekend, inspired by her in the video for XO (seriously obsessed with her white tank/jeans/all-the-gold look!):

???????????????????????????

(Rad T-Shirt from Express in NY, jeans from Monsoon, gold necklaces and earrings are mostly vintage and/or gifts)

And here I am, over a decade ago, embarrassing myself whilst channelling her other Crazy in Love outfit at a fancy dress party:

This is how I found my earrings when I came home late one night, a couple of months ago….Standing up….and I’m sure I didn’t leave them like that….

Oh how I love a theme! Christmas, Easter, Valentine’s Day, World Migratory Bird Day, you name it, I have an outfit for it. However, these days I have a desk job that doesn’t allow me to turn up in full Morticia mode on Hallowe’en (*sigh*) so I have had to content myself with vaguely spooky jewellery and a red and black glittery manicure instead.
