Plates

How adorable is this peacock plate from Perky on Not on the High Street?! I kind of want to buy it and be one of those people who displays plates on her wall… Of course I would buy some as dinner plates but £29.50 a plate is sliiightly out of my price range.

What I did buy however is a bunch of plates from the Habitat Concetta range, which I’ve loved for ages! Also pretty expensive, but I compromised by buying half the amount of plates and bowls that I need and the other half from Ikea. The Ikea plates are about the same size and shape, just plain white, so I figure I’ll alternate when setting the table and it’ll look fine.

Upon closer inspection of the Perky products, they also do plates with other fabulous designs! As well as cushions and art prints! I may have to splurge on something after all…. After all, a house isn’t a home without an earring-wearing bird.

Sorry for the selfie overload – I hardly ever wear lipstick or blowdry my hair so I got overexcited!

It was my friend’s birthday a couple of weeks ago and we all went out to celebrate. Dinner at Vapiano (literally the stupidest system I have ever encountered, we basically queued separately, ate separately and then left) followed by clubbing at G.A.Y. which was awesome! We showed our age by dancing manically to 5ive and S Club, before traipsing all the way to Heaven, where we showed our age further by dancing manically to 5ive and S Club (unlike us, that never gets old)! Hailee Steinfeld performed her debut show in the UK and was fantastic.

I wore:

Black mesh top, by The Ragged Priest. I got it in Ad Hoc, this really cool shop that I passed on my Made in Chelsea walking tour (yes, I am THAT cool. Also it was a gift from a friend) last month.

I wanted so. much. stuff.

Ad Hoc

The sunglasses were £15 each and I wanted them ALL:

I really nearly bought the cat’s eye ones (from the black and white picture) but I always buy novelty sunnies and then don’t wear them because they actually never look as good as normal ones. I did manage to find a replacement pair for the (more subtle) cat eye sunnies that I broke on holiday though so that was good. And I got a discount on the top as one of the patches was coming off a bit. 🙂

I wore it with black treggings and booties (both from M&S) and my super old leather jacket (Warehouse) because you can’t really go wrong with a classic.

A few coats of Revlon Black Cherry lipstick and I was ready to go!

I was running late so ended up taking a black cab there, and couldn’t resist trying to take a taxi selfie. I would have taken one on the night bus home as a compare and contrast exercise but it was crowded and I was embarrassed!

Random funky sweet shop we walked past:

Wasn’t convinced by her outfit to be honest….

But, like I said, she was brilliant!

Balloons!

These were released at the end, causing my friend to flail so hard that my phone (I was trying to film) was thrown out of my hands into the crowd, so I ended my night scrambling around on the floor trying to find it before someone crushed it!

Which I did! 😀

Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!

I was actually late for work the other day because I was half way down in the lift before I realised that I really couldn’t subject my innocent fellow tube-takers to the horror of this outfit. Clashing may be the new going but retina-bleeding will never be the new colour-blocking.

(I clearly didn’t have the same qualms about exposing the people who are kind enough to read my blog to the same pain- sorry! Send the optometrist fees to the usual address.)

Pink trench and mustard top both Marks & Spencer.

I had to rush back and dig up my neutral Primark trench with faux leather sleeves.

Jewellery wise, I wore my daisy necklace from the Brooklyn flea market and my sheep earrings, which I’m still in love with.

Hope everyone is having a good, fashion faux-pas free week – the end is in sight! 🙂

divalucia-red

I am having a peculiar love affair with this console table. I can’t remember the last time I felt lust like this. And the last time I thought about an ostrich this much was, well let’s save that story for band camp shall we?

(joke)

It comes in black:

divalucia-black-s (1)

You can get it (for about £500 less) without the lamp:

In fact, all sorts of animal arse options are available to you:

Or even a whole horse for those with the sort of houses that could only be improved by the addition of a giant behoofed mammal.

Martin_ibride_yatzer_1

These are all from ibride, and I am now kind of obsessed with their weird and wonderful website. I originally saw the table on Out There Interiors, where I bought my coffee table for my new flat (alas not an ostrich), and I am obsessed with everything on that website too!

If only these were cheap novelty items then I would be the proud lover owner of the Diva Lucia (it’s even named after one of my best friends, this has to be a sign!), but at £895 a pop, I think I may have to exercise my iffy self restraint.

Boo 😦

I could not resist posting this!

I actually squealed when I saw this week’s Grazia (and sent these pictures to everyone I know). Yes, I realise that a facial feature can’t really be a “trend”, and that my self worth in no way relies upon Grazia telling me that my face is acceptable (or even fashionable). I also realise that most of the women pictured have what I consider to be reasonably dainty noses, and I take issue with the final paragraph that states that not everyone will fancy you if you have a big nose (WHY NOT?? I’M ADORABLE!) but still! Vindication at last! My time has come! All those years of wondering why no one famous (ie. “attractive” to my teenaged mind) ever has a big nose erased in one fell swoop!

😉

Newplace!

I am currently in the process of moving out. This is a Big Deal for me.

I have never lived alone, or even away from my family. If my parents hadn’t upped and left the country for warmer climes a few years ago, I’d probably still live with them. As it is, I live with my sister. I LOVE living with my sister- she’s my best friend and an amazing cook, it’s kind of a no-brainer. However, now that I am getting *ahem* older, I have decided that I should at least try and go it alone for a bit (Spoiler alert-this is less dramatic than it sounds, I am moving 10 minutes down the road). I am simultaneously excited and terrified. (What will I eat?!)

Unfortunately all this moving has put a serious spanner in my blogging! Not for want of inspiration, but simply because every time I sit down to blog I find myself thinking “this time would be better spent researching integrated washer dryers” and I somehow distract myself from the task at hand, despite the fact that researching integrated washer dryers is exactly as boring as it sounds. But I miss blogging! And my sister and boyfriend may kill me if I don’t manage to find at least 5 minutes a day where I’m not thinking/talking/googling/monologuing incessantly/all of the above about cabinets. Seriously, it’s that bad. I have little dancing household appliances can-canning across my brain ALL DAY. It’s like Fantasia with furniture.

So, I’m going to try and blog a bit more, as I’m not quite ready to relinquish my grip on sanity just yet.

That said, if this blog takes a turn away from from fashion and towards decor, go easy on me – I’m only human!

Hope everyone’s having a good week, and Happy Autumn! 🙂

Because you can never have too many!

ASOSearrings

Scouring ASOS for a birthday present for a friend, I naturally stumbled upon a couple (*ahem*) of things I wanted for myself. It didn’t help that I had a 20% off card from Elle magazine (the September issue, with Kristen Stewart on the cover) so felt like I had to “make the most” of the discount by spending tons more money than I otherwise would have.

But my favourite purchases were these 2 pairs of earrings:

image1xxl

Bought these as an attempt to replace my similar shaped pink and green ones that broke 😦 They were £8.

image1xxl (1)

LOVE these ones, and they show up better against my dark hair too. £20 (£16 with the discount :-D)

I am letting myself off the hook however as I did also buy the aforementioned present (a knitted jumper with a burger on it that I totally want for myself as well!) for my friend’s birthday!

Where’s my halo?

Happy Friday, have a great weekend!

I don’t wear bikinis because I’m not strong enough (yet!*) to fight against society’s ridiculous restrictions on what it’s ok for me to look like.

Also, my tummy is so white. It’s like it belongs to a different person.

It glows in the dark.

Anyway, the fact that one-pieces are in fashion again is a cause of major celebration for me, and I may have gotten a bit carried away! The front 5 are new and the back 6 are old favourites.

(I found a few more that I had forgotten about after I took this picture! I may need to have a swimsuit cull in the near future…)

photo 2

Back row (L-R):

Multicoloured: Marks & Spencer (LOVE this one, it’s underwired and everything)

Coral: River Island (really flattering but needed to sew in a strapless bikini top as it had zero support)

Ice cream and polka dots: Figleaves (very busty, not for the modest among us)

Orangey coral: River Island again,

Blue & White: Frost French Floozie (I needed to size down, the cups were massive)

Stripey: Marks & Spencer, bought mostly for “real” swimming, as in laps, not attempting to look attractive on the beach. I find halterneck swimsuits more flattering but so uncomfortable, I always get a bad neck after wearing them consistently, so for proper swimming I prefer normal shoulder straps.

Front row (L-R):

Black: Figleaves, has a built in bra, and is super comfy. It’s very plain but retro enough that it is still a ‘look’

Blue leopard: Marks & Spencer, possibly my new favourite

Chartreuse: Marks & Spencer again, flattering tummy ruching, and the colour almost makes me look tanned! (I had to size up as the body was quite short.)

Black one with sheer polka dot straps: Figleaves. They didn’t have my size but I liked it so much I bought it a size too small. Consequently I put it on then decided against it almost every day while I was on holiday. When will I learn…?! :-p

Stripey: M&S, same as the chartreuse one but I didn’t think it through. It has the same tummy ruching but because of the *ahem* hilly terrain it covers, the stripes don’t sit straight. They create a sort of optical illusion that makes my tummy look really weird! This one may be relegated to the “laps in the local leisure centre” league. (It is an M&S “long” one though for people with long torsos like myself, so it is super comfy.)

photo 4

I don’t know why I enjoy this effect so much. I think it’s just the Riverdance principle – one person doing it looks a bit whevs, several people at once = oooh!

Hope everyone’s having a great week!

*(One day, I will be so ready. And society had better watch itself…)

😀

photo 1 (3)

Oh wait, I’m already there 🙂

I’m currently in Athens, visiting my family. We’re in the middle of a heatwave, all the locals are devastated – I am thrilled! 🙂 Who knows? I might even tan.

I bought this bag from Accessorize (my sister has the blue version that says “Hit the beach”). It’s meant to be a “bikini bag”, which I assume means it’s to put your wet bikini in when you change out of it but I think it’s way too cute for that and have been using it as a clutch.

IMG_3006

I had a little snakeskin pouch that came with a beach bag I bought a few years ago so I put my money and tissues etc. in that, and then put in my pineapple scarf from Suite Blanco in Lisbon, Victoria Secret lip gloss and my phone (the moving glitter phone case is from Skinnydip London, I am obsessed with their stuff).

If you’re on holiday, I hope you’re having a brilliant time and if you’re not, I hope you’re not too upset about it!

Happy hump day!

OOTD T-shirts

Just two recent outfits…

I wore my new pink M&S top with M&S treggings and sparkly Converse to see Dave Chappelle at the Hammersmith Apollo last week. We were way further forward than I thought we’d be and I have never been so grateful for a lack of audience participation in my life! I think I am going to make an effort to sit near the back at comedy shows in the future… It didn’t help that my sister was wearing an even brighter top (it was neon and actually glowed under the lights) – we have never felt so vulnerable! Having said that, our cheeks hurt for hours afterwards so definitely a good show!

photo 3 (34)

The top is super flowy and comfortable and has a funky pleated back, which adds interest and makes it just smart enough for work:

photo 5 (21)

M&S

I’m not sure how flattering it actually is- I’m worried that it creates a slight hump-back/maternity effect- but I think that’s mostly just in photos, it’s fine in motion. And I couldn’t resist the colour!

photo 4 (29)

Necklace: Sublime; ring from Monastiraki last year; bracelets are various ones ones I have accumulated over the years, I think the grey circle one is by Elle Amber.

photo 3 (35)

photo 5 (20)

The top kind of speaks for itself… how could I not buy it?! Anything that combines Disney with Beyoncé is alright by me! I am obsessed with Primark t-shirts actually, they are pretty much all I buy these days- I love the captions, the material and the shape. Although I can’t wait for them to get over their “half rolled up sleeves” phase.

I wore this outfit to go for dinner yesterday. The skirt is Primark, and the trainers are New Balance (410 Sonic) from Asos.

If you had told me even a year ago that I would be wearing trainers to dinner, I would have laughed in your face. (Admittedly, we only went to the local kebab place, I wouldn’t have worn them had we been going anywhere nicer.) But as I get older, I am rapidly losing tolerance for anything less than super-comfiness (another thing I never believed I’d say until recently) and so I bought these with a view to mostly just wearing them to and from work. However, what with seeing so many people (primarily bloggers) making trainers into a ‘look’, I have been venturing out in them more and more. It took me ages to find ones that I liked, as I wanted really clean, uncluttered ones that didn’t make my feet look enormous (I have realised that whenever I think a woman looks nice in trainers, it is almost always because her feet are tiny and dainty- aka my life dream) but I am really happy with these ones.

Still not as cool as my sparkly Converse though!
