chartreuse

Why does this always happen to me? I go out in mid-July (one of the hottest days of the year actually) to get a birthday present for my sister, and come home having spent £120 on a snot-coloured winter coat for myself.

Which I love!

😀

It’s from M&S and comes in loads of other gorgeous colours too! I especially love the lilac and pink. I can’t explain why I was drawn to the most controversial colour (it has already received many ‘bleurgh’ faces from the people I’ve shown it to), I just had to have it!

Let’s hope I feel the same way by the time winter rolls around! *

* Who am I kidding? I live in London, winter will have started by the time I finish this post!

Peplum B2

Top: Marks & Spencer

Necklace: Primark

Shoes: Office

I wore this peplum top to work last week, and then out for drinks after. I always pair it with a biggish necklace, as it’s very high-necked for me and the necklace helps break it up.

(Please excuse me with the black and white photos etc, I have only just got a new phone with these functions and I am still in the “ooh everything looks so pretty in black and white or with one of those filters that makes everything a cool colour” phase!)

(Also, yes, I took a torso selfie whilst on the phone at work. I am that person.)

This was another way I wore the top a while ago, with my Peacocks pink sparkly necklace, my Warehouse leather jacket and detachable Asos fur collar. Bit more girly/flashy.

Have a great week! 🙂

Way back in February I posted about my ASOS wishlist. One of the items on it was this leather dress, which I loved but couldn’t justify at £150, as I didn’t know where I would wear it.

I still have no idea where I would wear it, but now it’s on sale for £60 and they had my size so I went ahead and bought it anyway!

Incidentally, I had a dream last night in which all the shops in the world collectively released a statement saying that they were discontinuing my size! All other sizes would still be made, they would just skip mine. I had a massive dream tantrum and woke up quite genuinely vexed. 😦 I’m sure this dream symbolically reveals something deep and meaningful about my subconscious personality.

Possibly that I’m shallow 😉

My boyfriend thinks it’s “a bit much” and possibly only suitable for a goth/fetish themed event (neither of which ever really crop up in my daily life) and my sister was on the fence.

Any thoughts? I think I like it. It fits quite nicely and the length, which was a big concern, is actually surprisingly flattering. (Loving these M&S sandals!). I wouldn’t wear it in the summer obviously but maybe for a formal event in autumn or winter? (Still not sure where though, don’t think it would work for a wedding or anything.)

Is it too gothy? Too fetishy? Too spherical boob-y? I might try and pair it with a little cardi to tone it down a bit (as suggested by the ingenious Maison Bentley), would this make the difference?

Basically, should it stay or should it go? Help, please!

Thank you!

Happy Friday!

Anyone who knows me knows that I consider Accessorize to be my spiritual home. I was in there the other day, buying a gift for my niece. (She’s 4, adorable, and for her birthday she requested her own versions of all of my necklaces! Having been buying jewellery for almost 20 years, I was unable to fulfil that particular wish, but I figured a couple of “grown-up” necklaces from my favourite shop might do the trick!)

Anyway, while I was there I saw (and heroically put back on the shelf) this super-cute bag:

They have loads of really cool pompom-y boho stuff as well, which I’m really feeling right now but I managed to restrain myself and only bought these flip flops:

I am obsessed with Accessorize’s seagrass flip flops, I buy a couple of pairs every year as they are by far the comfiest flip flops I have ever come across! (The “thong” bit is fabric, which makes it so much nicer than most plastic flip flops). They only last about 2 or 3 summers before falling apart though so spares are a must!

Hope everyone’s enjoying their summer so far! I am just getting ready to book my holiday (visiting my family in Athens) and I’m excited! 😀

 It’s nearly over!

I bought this top for the 2002 World Cup. It so perfectly encapsulated (and still does) my feelings on the subject. I used to wear it with a white trouser suit and red and white shell toes ‘coz that’s just how I rolled when I was 15….

I can never express in words how grateful I am that I was the last generation of teenagers to exist in a pre-camera phone world!

On Saturday, I went to a bbq in Brighton. Naturally, having been beautifully hot all week, it was cold and rainy all weekend. I wore:

Floral jacket: Bershka

WTF tee: Express, in NY

Treggings: M&S

Plimsolls that need a wash: Next

Wtf,jacket

 Earrings: Topshop

Greek name necklace: gift from my parents in Athens

Mermaid tears necklace: Tally Weijl in Lisbon

Tennis bracelets: Swarovski

Rings: assorted, mostly vintage

Of course, I had my coat and scarf on all day, so the effect was somewhat ruined.

Oh well, at least there were burgers.

On Sunday, I was back in London for my friend’s British/tennis themed party to celebrate both her recent citizenship and the Wimbledon men’s final. She forced us to play tennis (something I haven’t done since I was at school. You’ll be pleased to know that my fear of flying balls and anything involving hand to eye coordination remains intact).

I wore:

Black and white dress: H&M

Trainers: Nike

Wristband: bought at Wimbledon when I went last week

Clutch: Amazon, stolen from my sister-in-law for the occasion

Unrealistic tennis posing: model’s own

Oh well, at least there was Pimms!

Dolly football

Last Saturday I went and saw Dolly Parton at The O2 with my sister and I officially have a new icon/muse/role model/ lady crush (girl crush doesn’t seem quite right!)/mentor! She was phenomenal, just 100% herself – cheesy, corny, tacky, preachy, chirpy, over-the-top and super-sweet. Her voice blew me away, it is so true and effortless it just pours out of her (I don’t believe the Glasto miming rumours at all). She played about 12 instruments, including the harmonica, fiddle, saxophone (after which she told us that she usually enjoys a cigarette after sax – haw haw), organ, guitar and several others I didn’t recognise at all. I have honestly never seen anyone so not concerned with being cool. She never tries to stay relevant, she never changes to fit the current fashion, she can laugh at herself, she is so completely fake yet totally honest and genuine about it. In short, I love her!

I obviously couldn’t resist the urge to theme my outfit around her awesomeness, so I foofed up my hair and wore:

Sequin dress: Oasis

Denim jacket: Gap, from when I was about 10!

Cowboy boots: My sister’s, from New Mexico

Earrings: Peacocks

Turquoise bracelet: Suite Blanco in Lisbon

D necklace: gift from my Dad, years ago

So Saturday night was awesome and I was fully prepared for Sunday night to follow suit. I wore my Greece shirt, bought in 2004 (when we, ahem, WON the European championships!), and never seen since. Amazingly I actually found this is the first box I looked in, which NEVER happens and was pretty much the most exciting thing ever. Despite thinking that people who wear football shirts out in public at non-football related events should be locked up, I wore this out to brunch in the morning too, in case it brought us luck. I paired it with my Mum’s vintage skirt, my Primark leopard print shoes, my Aldo orange bag and pink lipstick to ensure that I still looked mildly feminine.

Unfortunately, despite ALL THIS EFFORT, we lost on penalties. What little interest I had in the World Cup has now left the building.

*sigh*

Have a great evening!

So, it’s only mid-morning and I have already been breathlessly informed by my sister and boyfriend that my life is finally complete- British company Metail has launched an actual version of Cher’s virtual closet! We can officially all feel like the coolest Betty of the 90s! That is so dope!
